EDUARDO ELOY (Fortaleza, Brazil, 1955)


Artist, painter, designer, engraver and producer of artisan paper, Eduardo Eloy was born in Fortaleza, Brazil in1955 where he current lives and develops his art work, researches and studies. Since 2000 he has been teaching as a professor of Engraving, Lithography, Drawing and Art Materials of the graduate course of Contemporary Arts at the Integrated University of Fortaleza. He has studied at the School of Visual Arts of Parque Lage, at the Museum of Modern Art - MAM and at the Foundation Calouste Gulbenkian - all in Rio de Janeiro.

Eduardo Eloy is also an art consultant and curator. He volunteers his services at the Cultural Bureau of the State of Ceará Government, at the Dragão do Mar Institute of Art and Culture, and at the Cultural Center of the Federal Bank of Northeastern Brazil in Fortaleza. His work is part of the Itau Cultural Foundation Virtual Encyclopedia of Visual Arts and Eloy has participated in various exhibits sponsored by that institution in many states of Brazil as in other countries as well. He has directed and implemented art work courses of engraving and artisan paper manufacturing in many cities in Brazil, Europe and South America. He directed courses on paper and engraving in the University Alcala of Henares in Spain and in the University of São Paulo - USP.

He founded and coordinated the Studio of Engraving and Artisan Paper of the Museum of Art of the Federal University of Ceará - MAUC, where he was responsible for the development of new engravers and developed a new technique through his research in the recycling of paper and vegetable fibers. From 1996 to1998 he has developed and directed courses on engraving for low-income juveniles through the Cultural Center of the Government of the State of Ceará. In 2004, Eduardo Eloy was the professor and curator of the Project “Imagens da Cidade - Um Olhar sobre o Theatro” (Images of the City - A look over the Theatre), for low income high school students, who created and exhibited engraving art work inspired by the architecture of the Jose de Alencar Theatre in Fortaleza. He has founded and coordinated the Studio of Art Tauape, which gave rise to a homonymous group of engravers and participated in the Aranha Group of mural painting. He was president and founder, together with other artists of the Institute of Engraving of Ceará - INGRAV. He has had exhibits in many countries including France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and the United States. In Brazil, he has organized exhibits in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, Belem, Recife, Brasilia, Porto Alegre and Fortaleza.
